With new customers getting into Camping and caravanning we are often asked how warm are these lightweight trailer tents and caravans in cold weather. So, the goal of the test was to assess the cold-weather performance of the Camp-let North 2025 and the Campmaster Duo 2025. With frosty nights and brisky bright days, the challenge was to determine how warm and comfortable these lightweight camping solutions could be in winter conditions. | |
CAMP-LET NORTH 2025 Evening and Nighttime Temperatures:

Set-Up and Features: - Two persons set up time: 20 minutes (including additional groundsheets, electrics,heater, fridge and furniture). - Ground Insulation: Three layers (tarpaulin, Velcro bucket groundsheet, breathable groundsheet) minimized drafts and preserved heat. - Heating: An old 1000/2000w Royal fan heater was used, and more efficient heaters which are available could improve results. - Comfort: At +7 to +8°C in the evenings, with appropriate clothing and a hot meal, it was cozy enough for a relaxing stay. |

CAMPMASTER DUO 2025 Performance Overview Daytime Temperatures: - Sunny intervals, 0°C Outside: Built-in radiator maintained +18°C inside. - Sunny intervals, 2°C Outside: Built-in radiator reached +19°C inside. - Bright Sunshine, 0°C Outside: Built-in radiator and Kampa Didi 750/1500w fan heater warmed the interior to +24°C. |

Nighttime Temperatures: - -4°C Outside: Radiator maintained +17°C inside. With the additional fan heater, temperatures reached +25°C. |

Set-Up and Features: Layout: The combined seating and slide-out bed provided more daytime space compared to the previous model. Heating: The standard fitted radiator was effective, and a compact plug in Kampa Didi fan heater was added for testing. Comfort: The interior remained warm and cozy, even during frosty conditions. Awning: A Dometic Legarra Air 220S awning attached to the rear door added usable space. |

Key Observation: Despite external frost, the Campmaster Duo stayed consistently warm. A robin even sought refuge inside the awning – See the video below. The additional fan heater was used for test purposes only to increase the inside temperature to + 25 degrees early evening and + 23 nighttime. By using the built-in radiator only, +18 degrees was the average temperature |

Winter camping with trailer tents and lightweight caravans is entirely feasible with the right preparation. Both the Camp-let North and the Campmaster Duo performed admirably in frosty subzero conditions, offering cozy retreats against the chill. Tips for Winter Camping: 1. Use efficient heaters and consider adding quick to fit interlocking awning floor tiles for additional warmth and comfort. 2. Layers of clothing, and don’t forget a woolly hat! 3. Embrace the challenge—cold-weather camping can be invigorating and fun. |
