KHYAM TENTS

For over a decade Khyam has been a market leading innovator in the manufacture of tents and camping equipment. Proven in some of the harshest environments on Earth including the Arctic and the deserts of the Paris Dakar Rally, Khyam is a name that is renowned for quality, durability and simplicity. Customer satisfaction is at the heart of Khyam's on-going research and development and is evident in the thoughtful features designed to take the worry from your camping experience. Kyham tents are built to last and are tested to meet and exceed the stringent requirements of the MOD (Ministry Of Defence), including wind tunnel testing.

KHYAM TENT DESIGN - RAPIDEX POLE SYSTEM

Rapidex Joint

The Kyham patented Rapidex Quick-Erect System used in the design of the Ridgi-dome and Flexi-dome tent ranges allows for much larger and more luxurious tents to be set up more easily and faster than the most compact of ordinary tents. The Khyam Flexi-dome range main pole structure is a combination of robust solid glass fibre poles bonded onto reinforced moulded nylon joints. Poles in the Ridgi-dome ranges are constructed from aluminium and steel providing rigidity whilst maintaining flexibility. It is very rare for these poles and joints to break but it is always worth while carrying a set of spares just in case.

FLYSHEETS AND FABRICS

Khyam tent flysheet's are manufactured from PU coated synthetic fabric called Weatherweave 5000™ (please note that Weatherweave 5000 relates in no way to the fabrics hydrostatic head resistance). All synthetic fabrics suffer a degree of condensation dependant upon conditions and so in order to reduce this natural phenomena, Khyam have built a number of ventilation systems into all their tent ranges. All Khyam outer tent fabrics have flame retardant treatment, an essential process that greatly reduces the risk of personal injury in the event of fire. The hydrostatic head capacity of the Khyam Flexi-dome range is 2500mm, the Ridgi-dome's and Ridgi-pod's have a HH of 3000mm. The hydrostatic head pressure test is used to measure how waterproof various tent fabrics are by placing a vertical column of water directly over the fabric. The height of the water column is increased until the water pressure forces the water to pass through the fabric, the height of the water is measured, the greater the height the greater the fabrics waterproof properties.

All Khyam inner tents are equipped with secondary mosquito net doors and double zip sliders to promote ventilation. The inner doors can be rolled up or tied back for clear access and all inner tents can be easily detached from the flysheet and folded back or removed. Never cook inside your tent, synthetic fabrics will melt and could even catch fire lf they come into contact with a flame or very hot object.

GUY POINTS

Guy Point

Guying points are sewn onto the flysheet of all Khyam tents to maintain stability in windy conditions. To reduce the risk of damage in severe weather it is strongly recommended that where applicable, each main pole is guyed directly using a 'Storm Pack' accessory kit (available from online shop). Tents in the Ridgi-dome and Ridgi-pod ranges should use the 'Tri-guy System' provided at all times. Both the 'Storm Guy' pack and the 'Tri-guy System' have been specifically designed to spread tension evenly around the pole system. As dome tents are flexible structures, guys and storm guys should never be over-tensioned as this will distort the framework and the fabric will become loose.

TENT SEAMS

All Khyam tent flysheet have been tape sealed during manufacture and so sealant only needs to be applied where an inner tent suspension loop has been stitched onto a seam. Any untaped seams may require treatment with the seam sealant, which is provided. Unlike natural fabrics, synthetic materials do not recover after sewing, so it is sometimes necessary to apply sealant. Using the applicator, apply the sealant carefully along the inside of the flysheet seams and around the inner tent hanging points. Ensure that they are totally sealed to prevent any wicking.
